Cambridge Rowing Club

Learn to Row

The Learn to Row program is for people of all ages who are new to the sport of rowing. It provides an introduction to boat-handling skills and the fundamentals of the rowing stroke, along with instruction on water safety. Our students learn to row in training singles, with the option of graduating to crew boats toward the end of the program.

Two Learn to Row groups start in early May and two more in June. Each group meets twice a week for a total of eight lessons, making the course four weeks long if the weather cooperates. If there are cancellations due to inclement weather, replacement lessons will be held on a fifth week. Please see the schedules below.

Registration

The Learn to Row fee of $350 covers the instructional period plus recreational rowing privileges for the rest of the year. This non-refundable fee must be paid upon registration to secure your place in the program. Each group is limited to eight participants.

We invite you to register in person at our boathouse on Saturday, April 5, between 10 am and 2 pm.

If you are unable to attend the registration session, please fill out the Learn to Row registration form and mail it in together with your payment.

If you have any questions about registration, write to: row@cambridgerowingclub.on.ca

Membership for experienced rowers

If you have rowed previously, you may be ready to go directly into the recreational or competitive program. Please note that our club uses sliding-seat rowing shells, not kayaks or fixed-seat rowboats. Depending on your circumstances, you may be asked to demonstrate your rowing skills in a practical evaluation.

Experienced rowers can register in person at our boathouse on Saturday, April 5, from 10 am to 2 pm. After that date, please email us to make arrangements for a boathouse visit: row@cambridgerowingclub.on.ca

Recreational rowing

The adult recreational fee is $300 for the 2014-15 season, which begins on April 1, 2014, and ends on March 31, 2015. On-water rowing typically runs from May through October. Our boathouse is open for dry-land training throughout the year.

University students (with valid ID) pay a discounted fee of $250 for recreational membership. Youth rowers (high school and below) pay a discounted fee of $200 for recreational membership.

Recreational members are permitted to use club boats that suit their skill level. The club fleet consists mainly of singles and doubles. Two quads and a four are also available. Club boats may be used at any time during daylight hours for up to 90 minutes at a time. To ensure fair allocation, members must book club boats in advance through our online boat reservation system.

Competitive rowing

Rowers who wish to race in sanctioned regattas must pay an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of registering a competitive member with RowOntario and Rowing Canada. Regatta entry fees and transportation costs are the rower's responsibility and are not included in the competitive fee.

Private boat storage

For an additional fee of $125, members in good standing may keep a boat of their own in a separate bay of the boathouse, subject to berth availability. Boat insurance is the owner's responsibility.
